garden visitor // hummingbird hawk-moth

I was super delighted to spot a beautiful fluttery visitor in the garden yesterday afternoon! It was enjoying the purple toadflax that grows at the back of my shed.

It’s funny because I was just thinking about the first time I saw one of these in the garden a couple of summers ago. I was looking for bugs + butterflies to photograph when it suddenly appeared -What a treat!

I couldn’t get any closer but thankfully my camera zoom lens got some beautiful pictures.

The Hummingbird Hawk-moth is a day-flying moth that migrates to the UK from Southern Europe. They resemble the Hummingbird as they feed on the nectar of tube shaped flowers while hovering in the air.

Keep your eyes peeled for them in your garden this summer time!
