ooak // patchwork quilted cushions

Hello! After a busy half-term away + making for a wonderful stockist, I have been back working a lot with my sewing machine again. I find when there is quiet spells in orders, I try + fill my time as best I can. After our break away, I updated my website by giving it a bit of a refresh of photographs + changing the layout ever so slightly. It takes me a while to prepare for a ‘change’ but I knew I wanted more of a ‘fresh’ feel to it, so you may have noticed there’s more white space with green + blue text along with new images.

Once I was happy with my website, even that is something hard to stop looking at too closely otherwise I’ll be forever tweaking it. I sat down with my sewing machine. It’s only a small, basic Brother sewing machine but have grown to love it. I’ve had it since 2018 + it has not let me down once. I have taught myself how to use it + along the way have grown in confidence by making products using my block printed fabrics. Obviously with many helpful books + online instructions too! So, with my large floor basket of remnant fabrics in so many colours + prints to play with, I made some more cushions. I love a cushion! Especially a handcrafted cushion. Don’t look at the supermarket ones please. These are all handmade using my cotton off-cuts + seconds which I cut up into panels. I have so many long strips of fabric leftover from making lampshades so these work well once I’ve decided the patchwork layout to go with. It takes me a long time just to decide on the colourways + where to place the panels + fabric strips before sewing. But once I get into the swing of it, colour choices becomes more fluid. I really enjoy making unique pieces. The cushions are so soft with the added thick wadding + I like to add some decorative stitching too on top for more detail + interest. If you look closely you can see the wavy lines sewn on top of the patchwork. Horizontal lines on the square cushions + vertical ones on the rectangle cushions - more pattern making!

Here are the finished 6 - Patchwork Quilted Cotton Cushions. All OOAK (One-of-a-kind)
